Yoghurt: from simple staple to supercharged snack

According to Innova Market Insights, over 50% of people who eat yoghurt do so for its health benefits.1 With more consumers adding this food to their diet, FrieslandCampina Ingredients will highlight how to take yoghurt from a simple snack to a functional favourite with a range of forward-thinking concepts at the New Product Zone. Delegates can sample four delicious yoghurt applications, made with Nutri Whey™ ProHeat, DHA, and galacto-oligosaccharides (GOS) – developed to tap into yoghurts’ existing health halo and inspire fresh innovation by adding benefits for muscle, brain, and gut health. Experts will be on stand #71K10 to explain how to leverage untapped opportunities to supercharge yoghurt formulations and help brands stand out on crowded fridge shelves.

In addition, Nadia Ustinova, Global Innovation Marketing Manager at FrieslandCampina Ingredients, will explain how to breathe new life into yoghurt innovation at an expert speaker session on 2nd December at 14:00 –14:25. By exploring untapped ingredients, Nadia will demonstrate to visitors how to use fortification to unlock even more functional benefits for every life stage.

“We’re on a mission to take yoghurt to new places,” comments Guus Aerts, Global Director Marketing & Product Strategy at FrieslandCampina Ingredients. “There are so many options in the dairy aisles today, with most containing probiotics, but we want to show how to push this consumer staple even further. Fortifying yoghurt with ingredients that tap into on-trend health benefits can really shake up functional offerings – opening up new avenues and increasing shelf appeal for a whole new generation of health-savvy consumers.”

The perfect match: getting the right protein for the right format

“Consumers are increasingly looking for protein-rich products that work with their lifestyle, whether that’s sustained energy between meals, overnight recovery or managing appetite throughout the day,” adds Sophie Zillinger Molenaar, Global Marketing Lead, FrieslandCampina Ingredients. “The formulation barriers that once held protein innovation back, like solubility, texture and taste, are no longer roadblocks for innovation, thanks to novel protein solutions. We’re looking forward to demonstrating at Fi Europe how these capabilities can unlock new applications with a range of concepts for every life stage that are as nutritious as they are delicious.”

Along with whey protein, caseinates are another star player in the protein space, bringing unique benefits that offer formulators potentially untapped opportunities. FrieslandCampina Ingredients will showcase the unique versatility of these proteins at this year’s Fi Europe through a range of applications, including coffee drinks designed to provide a healthy, energising morning boost. Visitors can also discover how to overcome common formulation challenges by sampling tasty bars crafted with FrieslandCampina Ingredients’ cutting-edge Excellion® Textpro, a patented solution, which brings a softer texture and reduced product hardening throughout shelf life, while delivering a powerful protein punch.

Shake it off: multifunctional shake concepts

Finally, FrieslandCampina Ingredients experts will be on hand to demonstrate the formulation versatility of shakes through a selection of great-tasting products. Featuring caseinates plus DHA omega 3s and the company’s unique Biotis® Fermentis, these concepts blend functionality and flavour in every sip. For example, one shake features Biotis® Fermentis – a unique blend of whey protein and prebiotic GOS fermented with probiotic cultures – aims to inspire the next multi-functional high-protein products that support digestion and post-exercise recovery while activating the gut-muscle axis. While another shake combines algae-based DHA and caseinates to create an appealing, smart shake that capitalises on the “protein plus” trend.
