  • Starting in September 2024, Huy Anh will offer EUDR-compliant rubber products to the EU market, strengthening its position as a sustainability leader and expanding its global reach.

Earlier this week, Koltiva, a leader in sustainable agriculture and supply chain traceability backed by AC Ventures, announced that it had been appointed by Vietnam-based rubber company Huy Anh Natural Rubber to help it comply with the EU Deforestation Regulation, which mandates zero deforestation in the production of a variety of commodities bought or sold in the European Union (EU).

Koltiva will ensure that Huy Anh’s products meet stringent international standards and enable the company to continue serving the global market with compliance and sustainability as top priorities.

Vietnam, a major player in the global rubber market, is the third-largest rubber exporter worldwide, providing about 8.7% of the global rubber output as of 2023. The country’s rubber industry, vital for products ranging from automobile parts to medical equipment, aims to continue its access to the lucrative EU market by adhering to the EUDR requirements.

Founded in 2014 and based in Thua Thien Hue, Vietnam, Huy Anh operates three processing plants across Vietnam and Laos. In response to a growing global demand for sustainable products, the company plans to expand its cultivation area from 3,000 hectares in 2024 to 15,000 hectares by 2025.

Koltiva’s technology and guidance will be instrumental in enhancing Huy Anh’s supply chain transparency and ensuring its products are sustainable and deforestation-free.

“Our partnership with Koltiva marks a pivotal moment in our journey toward sustainability,” said Le Thi Hong Mai, Deputy Director of Huy Anh. “The EUDR sets a high bar for environmental responsibility, and with Koltiva’s expertise, we are confident in our ability to meet these standards. This collaboration not only strengthens Huy Anh’s position in the global market but also reinforces our commitment to responsible business practices.”

The KoltiTrace MIS platform is key to the partnership, enabling traceable transaction data from plantation to processor and providing tools for deforestation and legality verification using updated satellite data.

Manfred Borer, co-founder and CEO of Koltiva, highlighted the collaboration’s importance, saying, “The European Union’s Deforestation Regulation represents a critical step toward global sustainability. We assist Huy Anh, our rubber client in Vietnam, by ensuring that their products comply with the stringent requirements of the EUDR. Through our KoltiTrace MIS platform, we offer them comprehensive supply chain mapping, real-time risk assessment, and deforestation monitoring. This allows for precise tracking from plantation to processor, enhancing transparency and helping Huy Anh’s commitment to environmental stewardship and sustainable practices.”

Starting in September 2024, Huy Anh will provide rubber products that adhere to the EUDR, ensuring EU customers receive products that meet the highest environmental standards. This positions Huy Anh as a sustainability leader in the rubber industry, poised to expand its global market reach, especially in regions where environmental standards are increasingly prioritized.
