Elopak releases eco-friendly aseptic carton

The level of carbon emissions around the world is still increasing at an alarming rate, a worry statistic. Many advocates are pushing for companies to rethink their operations and try to see where changes can be made to solve this environmental concern. One of these is Elopak, a manufacturer of carton alternatives to plastic bottles.

Elopak has introduced a new addition to their line of sustainable packaging: the Pure-Pak® eSense. This environment-friendly aseptic carton is fully recyclable and can preserve product integrity, safety and lifespan. It can do so even without the aluminum layer, which is typical in aseptic packaging. This is great news for the environment as extracting and producing aluminum requires energy-intensive processes.

As a result, the Pure-Pak® eSense version helps reduce carbon footprint by 28%, which coincides with Elopak’s sustainability campaign. Their goal is to replace plastic bottles with fully recyclable cartons and contribute to a net zero circular economy.

Elopak CMO Patrick Verhelst stated, “Today brands and consumers are constantly looking for new ways to further reduce their environmental footprint, without compromising on functionality. We are excited to add this latest innovation to our offering and provide our customers in the aseptic segment with an even more sustainable packaging solution.”

“This innovation has been made possible because of Elopak’s decades of experience, the determination and efforts of our technical experts, and our company-wide commitment to advancing sustainability,” he continued.

Elopak’s Director Sustainability Marianne Groven added, “Elopak is on a journey to become even more sustainable, both as a company and through the cartons we produce. Over time we have continuously improved the environmental profile of our cartons. For example, between 2014 and 2020 we achieved a reduction in the carbon footprint of an average carton with a closure from 32 gCO2e to 25 gCO2e.”

Among Elopak’s product offerings include Natural Brown Board cartons that feature reduced wood consumption and do not undergo bleaching process.
