The company’s inspection system applies artificial intelligence in the grape quality selection and uses laser spectroscopy for post-bottling inspection quality control.

Antares Vision Group, a leading provider of quality control and track & trace systems that ensures the transparency of products and supply chains through integrated data management, is introducing an integrated ecosystem of quality control and digitalization solutions dedicated to the wine sector at the Unified Wine & Grape Symposium, Booth 1802 (FT System) in Sacramento, CA, Jan 24-26.

For the wine sector, Antares Vision Group brings two important technological innovations, whose applications occur at two crucial phases of processing: during the sorting of grapes, which are chosen according to their quality, and during bottling, which is essential for long-term product conservation.

The first solution, developed by AVG partner Oròbix Life –a specialist in artificial intelligence application – introduces artificial intelligence-fueled objectiveness and timeliness in evaluating the quality of grapes before they enter pressing machines. Among other benefits, AI expedites the grape selection process even while increasing precision by consistently identifying defects such as the presence of rot, damage caused by rain and hail, branches, leaves, and insects. Grapes are classified according to predefined rules set by the producers through an AI algorithm applied to the images, which continuously improves through a deep learning process.

The second innovation, through internal technology solutions provider FT System, utilizes laser spectroscopy to check product quality in closed bottles in a non-destructive, non-invasive manner. FT System has more than 20 years of quality control and inspection expertise in bottled products.

For post-bottle filling quality control, laser spectroscopy is applied after the capping phase. A non-destructive method certifies the absence of excess oxygen or abnormally high pressure in each bottle’s headspace. Furthermore, continuous monitoring prevents oxidation or product defects and verifies issues in the inerting or vacuum/full systems issues.

“Laser spectroscopy technologies and the application of Artificial Intelligence during production phases bring important results in the wine supply chain,” explains Gionatan Gualazzini, Antares Vision Group Beverage Business Development Manager, Wine and Spirits.

“The first, through the measurement of oxygen concentration and pressure in the headspace of the bottle, monitors the inerting systems of the line, avoiding the production of thousands of bottles with defects that compromise the product quality and brand reputation. The second, the application of Artificial Intelligence developed by Oròbix Life, provides producers an objective and immediate check on the quality of raw materials and defects caused by uncontrollable factors such as climate changes during the delivery phase. These are important innovations to check the product throughout the manufacturing process and guarantee the quality of every single bottle.”

The new solutions align with current trends in the beverage sector about product inspection and process digitalization, and expand upon the company’s integrated ecosystem of solutions for product traceability, the efficiency of production processes, and integrated data management to guarantee quality, safety, efficiency, and sustainability to build new levels of trust with end consumers.
