Singapore, 10 July 2023 — In celebration of World Chocolate Day on 7 July, Cargill Singapore invited youths from Singapore Children’s Society to indulge and explore the world of chocolate at Aalst Chocolate Academy at Cargill’s Aalst Chocolate facility at Tuas.
The youths were treated to an exclusive guided 360º virtual tour of the chocolate factory to understand the production of chocolate, from bean to compound; before they had a hands-on session, led by in-house Aalst chefs, to create their own chocolate masterpieces.
Xiaoling Liu, Managing Director of Aalst Chocolate and Indulgence Lead for Cargill’s Food Solutions business in Asia-Pacific, shared, “Aalst Chocolate is an integral part of Cargill and its heritage as a Singapore company spans over 20 years in Asia’s chocolate industry. As a company committed to nourishing the world in a safe, responsible and sustainable manner, we consistently find opportunities to give back to the communities in which we operate. On this year’s World Chocolate Day, it is our privilege to share about our business and the joy of chocolate with youths from Singapore Children’s Society.”
Wei Liat Chee Thow, Deputy Director, VOX @ Children’s Society, said, “In conjunction with Youth Day and World Chocolate Day, VOX’s youth members were delighted to be invited to visit Cargill’s Aalst Chocolate factory. For most of them, this was their first time ever in a chocolate factory! Beyond allowing our youth to learn about and engage in chocolate making, the trip gave them insights and inspiration into a career in the chocolate industry. We are thankful to have Cargill open its doors to commemorate World Chocolate Day with our youths through this invaluable, eye-opening experience.”
Acquired by Cargill in 2021, Aalst Chocolate is a proudly home-grown Singaporean chocolate company that produces chocolate covertures and compounds. From its manufacturing plant in Singapore and under 6 industrial and retail brands in its portfolio, Aalst Chocolate exports 98% of its products to over 55 countries all over the world.
