The food packaging industry is making strides towards sustainability and saving the environment. The number of plastic present in nature is still growing at an alarming pace, with a lot of bottles and caps just thrown to waste. As a call to reduce plastic pollution, companies in the space have been innovating and reinventing their product portfolios.
Closure Systems International Inc. (CSI), is one that has released its Twist & Flip® tethered closure design, a cap that stays on the bottle throughout its lifecycle. It’s manufactured using CSI’s very own PolyCycle™ resin, a post-consumer recycled material that’s 100% approved by the FDA.
Once one twists the cap, it flips open, locking it at 180 degrees. The cap is connected to a tamper-resistant band that keeps the closure attached even in use. It’s easy to open and recap the bottle with this product. The closed-loop packaging solution not only promotes sustainability, but minimizes overall costs and closure weight as well.
“As an active member of the U.S. Plastics Pact, Sustainable Packaging Coalition, and The Association of Plastic Recyclers, we are collaborating within our industry, our communities, and with our customers, to eliminate plastic pollution and improve recovery and recycling rates,” said Richard Burt, Vice President of Business Development at CSI. “Our closures are designed to advance sustainable packaging and procurement innovations, and drive progress against the Global Goals.”
This product can be a drop-in replacement for existing industry closures, and come in the following sizes: 26mm, 28mm, and 38mm diameters.
CSI designs and produces sustainable closure solutions for consumer and industrial markets. Their product line includes capping equipment for bottled water, juices, carbonated soft drinks, to name a few.
