Charoen Pokphand Foods Public Company Limited (CP Foods) is repurposing eggshells, a byproduct of its production process, into valuable resources such as fertilizers and bio-materials. This initiative reduces waste and greenhouse gas emissions, supporting CP Foods’ commitment to achieving Net-Zero emissions by 2050 and aligning with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

As part of its “Zero Waste to Landfill” policy, CP Foods has launched initiatives to repurpose eggshells. At the Chaiyaphum Hatchery, the “Eggshell Fertilizer for the Community and Farmers of Ban Sap Ruang Sai” project transforms eggshells into fertilizer, reducing landfill waste and benefiting local farmers by improving soil conditions and agricultural productivity.

In collaboration with King Mongkut’s University of Technology Thonburi (KMUTT), CP Foods is also developing bio-cement from eggshells to reduce saline groundwater seepage in rice fields. This project could lead to future applications in carbon storage and eco-friendly construction materials.

Additionally, at the Ban Na Egg Processing Plant, CP Foods provides approximately 1,800 tons of crushed eggshells annually to local farmers to enhance soil quality. The company is also exploring the use of eggshells in creating eco-friendly sanitary ware with SCG Decor Public Company Limited (SCGD).

All seven CP Foods egg chicken complexes across Thailand adopt Circular Economy principles to manage waste, repurposing eggshells as soil conditioners for agricultural use, thus reducing landfill waste. Moreover, initiatives like the Smart Egg Conveyor System improve production efficiency and reduce food loss, further supporting CP Foods’ sustainable development goals.
