10 March, 2023: Kerry, a world leader in taste and nutrition, is proud to announce that electricity in its Australia sites is now fully aligned to 100 percent renewable sources. The renewable energy strategy is one of many initiatives towards achieving Kerry’s Scope 1& 2 carbon target, which was updated in 2021 to reflect the need for bolder, more ambitious action — adopting a 1.5-degree aligned target approved by the SBTi for a 55 percent emissions reduction by 2030, compared to its 2017 base year.

Commenting on the arrangement, Christine Giuliano, GM & Commercial Lead for Kerry Australia and New Zealand, said: “This milestone demonstrates our commitment to investing in Australia and marks a key chapter in our journey to net zero. We strive to deliver to our customers in a sustainably responsible manner, co-creating solutions to achieve a lower environmental footprint, while supporting local businesses in Australia.”

Daniel Campion, Sustainability Lead for Kerry Asia Pacific, Middle East & Africa, added: “This is a great step forward in our Sustainable Nutrition strategy towards supporting renewable energy throughout our Australian sites. It allows us to help reduce our own footprint and our contribution to our customers’ footprint, as we play our part in helping to limit global warming to 1.5° towards a better planet for future generations.”

The electricity procured through this five-year contract with Diamond Energy is linked to renewable energy certificates produced by solar farms in central Queensland and the Tregalana Solar Farm in Whyalla in South Australia. Diamond Energy has been ranked one of Australia’s greenest electricity retailers by the Green Electricity Guide since 2009.

Shane Bartel, Chief Executive Officer from Climate Capital, said of the agreement: “We are thrilled to deliver renewable energy certificates from our Tregalana Solar Farm to Diamond Energy, to help enable Kerry to meet their RE100 commitments in Australia through the Diamond CLEAN® platform. Working with Diamond Energy on these exciting initiatives goes a long way to reducing carbon emissions and supporting new renewable energy projects.”
