Yili Group’s dairy factory based in Yunnan, China was recently given the PAS 2060 certification on carbon neutrality. This was awarded by Bureau Veritas, a world leader in testing, inspection and certification, making the facility the first to be certified as such in China.

The company is expected to continue to leverage tech innovation for green development and further explore ways to achieve carbon neutrality. Last Year, Yili Yunnan Dairy was awarded a “green electricity certificate”, another first in China’s food industry. The factory’s total energy consumption was reported to have declined by 15.7% year-on-year to 28.77 kg per ton in 2021. In February of this year, the company passed the China Certified Emissions Reductions, successfully completing a carbon inventory assessment.

They were also the first local dairy producer to publicly commit to carbon neutrality, after China announced its 2030/2060 climate goals at the United Nations General Assembly. Chairman Pan Gang even outlined how the company will achieve lead ratings on sustainability.

At the end of 2021, 23 of the company’s facilities were rated as “green factories” by China’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology. And it is expected that more will be certified soon as Yili Group continues to focus on green development, energy savings and carbon reduction.
