CP Foods partners with industry leaders to convert used cooking oil into sustainable aviation fuel

Charoen Pokphand Foods Public Company Limited (CP Foods) has joined forces with Bangchak Corporation to transform used cooking oil from its quick-service restaurant (QSR) operations—such as Five Star and Chester’s—into Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF). This initiative aligns with the company’s commitment to waste-to-value innovations, including alternative energy solutions.

Following the launch of its collaboration with Bangchak in 2024, CP Foods is now expanding the program by partnering with the Ministry of Industry and key private sector players to establish a supply chain network for used cooking oil. This effort supports Thailand’s ambition to achieve net-zero emissions.

CP Foods and its partners, including Bangchak, have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Ministry of Industry through the Department of Industrial Promotion. The agreement aims to accelerate SAF production, promote clean energy, and reduce the aviation sector’s environmental impact.

Kobboon Srichai, Head of Corporate Affairs & Investor Relations at CP Foods, emphasized the significance of the initiative. “Our partnership with Bangchak in 2024 was a major step forward. Today’s collaboration further strengthens our commitment to maximizing resource efficiency while setting new sustainability benchmarks for Thailand’s food industry.”

She added, “This initiative reflects our dedication to ‘Sustainovation’—integrating sustainability with innovation to ensure food security and create products that benefit both people and the planet.”

Anarkawee Chooratn, Head of Marketing at CP Foods, highlighted the company’s strict food safety measures. “We limit oil usage to just two rounds in our production process to uphold the highest food safety standards. This not only enhances food quality but also generates a steady supply of used cooking oil, which can be repurposed into clean energy like SAF—turning waste into value and benefiting the environment.”

Other MoU signatories include Central Group, Thai Beverage Public Company Limited, Thai President Foods Public Company Limited, and the Thai Food Processors’ Association, all of whom are committed to advancing sustainable solutions for a greener future.
