From advanced optical sorting to automated packaging. Offering tailored solutions for apples and citrus. Machinery will be on display in Rimini from 6 to 8 May.

Sorma Group, a global leader in the design and production of integrated post-harvest solutions for fruit and vegetable products, will participate in Macfrut, the international trade fair dedicated to the fruit and vegetable sector, from the 6th to the 8th of May in Rimini. Sorma Group will present its high-performance technologies designed to cover the entire post-harvest process from reception through palletization.

The solutions on display will focus on two strategic product categories: apples and citrus. Among these will be Aporo, the multi-head robotic system developed by Sorma Group for automated packaging. This system can place up to eight pieces of fruit simultaneously into pockets, ensuring they are oriented in the same direction with the best side visible, the side with the most intense colour.

The machine ensures precise and gentle handling of the product. This significantly reduces labour costs, and thanks to its versatile structure, it is compatible with a wide variety of fruit, including apples, peaches, nectarines, plums, and kiwis. Additionally, Aporo is capable of direct packaging fruit into cartons with pre-inserted pockets, guaranteeing maximum flexibility and efficiency.

Also on display will be Hypervision, an advanced optical sorting platform. Hypervision is a system of nine cameras per line with 360° hyperspectral image capturing technology. This technology offers impeccable fruit classification, processing up to 15 fruits per second per line.

The latest version of Hypervision includes Instant Defect-AI software enhanced with deep learning algorithms for more precise detection of ripeness and defects. Thanks to its Linux-based software platform, the optical sorter offers operational independence, advanced cybersecurity, and a fully scalable system.

“Sorma Group is also committed to developing an integrated process for the complete processing of apples, from tipping to palletization,” comments Alberto Agostini, Area Manager at Sorma. “This project aims to offer a ‘turnkey’ line made possible thanks to the efforts of our subsidiary SORMAF in France, which is actively driving innovation in the sector.”

A large focus will be placed on the world of citrus with this two-machine combination, the WD4-S Weigher and CBR-170S Packager. In tandem, they offer peak performance. The WD4-S Weigher, compact and powerful, can supply up to four packers with high precision at high speeds while handling variable calibres, making it ideal for all citruses. Depending on the requirements, Sorma Group offers ten different models. Thus, the appropriate model can be selected to suit specific needs. These are divided between dynamic cup systems and static vibrating channels.

Alongside it, the CBR-170S (Speed) Packager, now fully revamped to offer increased speed, precision, and reliability. Several technical features have been upgraded, including a new band-centring system with both UV and black-notch sensors, an updated suction cup and bellows system for optimising the bag creation and filling process, as well as new sealers that significantly improve the package seal hold.

The machine works in conjunction with high-capacity woven net rolls, replacing traditional bales or single reels. This increases the roll length from 1,300 metres up to 3,500 metres, which reduces machine downtime. The CBR-170S is microprocessor-controlled and features an intuitive touch-screen interface. It can produce net packaging with customizable side bands and optional accessories such as: carrying handles or thermal transfer printing – adapting to the needs of the packer.

A winning combination designed to efficiently, sustainably, and continuously meet the increasingly stringent demands of modern retail.
