World Young Chef Young Waiter Competition brings global culinary talent to Singapore for 45th anniversary country finals

The Exchange, Asia Square managed by Tadcaster Hospitality, will host the prestigious World Young Chef Young Waiter and Young Mixologist Awards Night on November 24th 2024, marking the event’s 45th anniversary. This global celebration of hospitality talent brings together 27 finalists from 9 countries [Singapore, Hong Kong, Thailand, India, England, Wales, Scotland, USA, and the Cayman Islands,  showcasing the next generation of culinary excellence.

Following Singapore’s historic sweep of all three categories in 2023, the competition returns to Singapore with heightened anticipation. The event features nine chefs, nine waiters, and nine mixologists competing for a share of the US$15,000 grand prize.

Head Judge Chef Dave Pynt will lead an esteemed panel of judges, including:

Chefs Panel:

  • Dave Pynt (Burnt Ends Hospitality Group)
  • Kirk Westaway (Jaan by Kirk Westaway)
  • Paul Longworth (Rhubharb)
  • Angela May (Deliciae Hospitality Management)

Waiter Panel:

  • Gibran Baydoun (BYGB Hospitality)
  • Rob Edwards (Wine&Earth)
  • Andy Downtown (Burnt Chocolate Consultancy)

Mixologist Panel:

  • Paul Robinson (NEFT Vodka)
  • Luke Barr (NEFT Vodka)
  • Julian Burger (Josef Cocktail Bar, Vienna)
  • Kacey Whaitiri-Roberts (Tadcaster Hospitality)

The competition, established in 1979 and relaunched in 2019, promotes hospitality as a career of choice, profession, and vocation. Head Judge, Dave Pynt, of Burnt Ends Hospitality Group, describes the competition as: “An amazing competition.  To see the next generation competing at such a high level is very promising and definitely enjoyable to judge!”.

The event is supported by industry leaders including Accor Group, NEFT Vodka, NORDAQ, Chefs President Professional, Gourmet Partners, Chef Works Singapore, Tadcaster Hospitality, Indigo Wine Co., and The Local Farm.

About World Young Chef Young Waiter, the competition, celebrating its 45th year, has expanded to include nine countries, fostering international collaboration and providing an enriching platform for skill development and professional advancement in the hospitality industry. The competition is open to professionals under 28 years of age from any background, promoting diversity and excellence in hospitality.
