Cargill seals deal with Japanese meals business titans to scale options for Asia

Cargill, hydrocolloid specialist Unitec Meals, and sugar producer Fuji Nihon Seito Company are joining forces to drive innovation and commercialisation of meal ingredient options in Japan and the Asia-Pacific area.

Since 1972, Cargill has maintained a long-standing partnership with Unitec Meals, a completely owned Fuji Nihon Seito Company subsidiary.

“We’re more than happy to develop our partnership with Unitec to collectively tackle broader markets in Asia Pacific, particularly Southeast Asia. We’re humbled by the belief and powerful partnership that has been constructed over the previous 50 years,” shares Ming Peng of Cargill Asia Common Supervisor Starches, Sweeteners and Texturizers.

Sealing the deal

Under the new memorandum of understanding, the companies will work on promoting their technical operations and business strategies. They will start by activating their manufacturing capacities and distribution channels in Japan and the broader Asian market.

Cargill has partnered with Unitec Meals to develop its pectin enterprise within the Japanese market. The joint improvement of recent merchandise/applied sciences combines the expertise and know-how of Cargill’s Innovation Middle in Singapore and Unitec Meals’ improvement amenities in Japan.

“Customers’ consuming habits have undergone important modifications within the final 50 years, and pectin is now broadly utilised in all kinds of desserts,” stated Shinichi Sekita, president and CEO of Unitec Meals.

In the latest enterprise developments at Cargill, the corporate has linked up with two key international meals gamers, Givaudan and Bühler, to kind a consortium in collaboration with Meals Tech Hub LATAM and the Meals Know-how Institute. The trio will construct a “Tropical Meals Innovation Middle” within the metropolis of Campinas, acknowledged because of the technological powerhouse of Brazil.

The corporate has deliberately constructed a soybean processing plant within the US with an annual capacity of 62 million bushels to fulfil home and international demand for oilseeds. Building on the challenge will start early subsequent yr, with plans to be operational in 2026.
