SINGAPORE/HAMBURG – Nurasa and Food Harbour Hamburg signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) in Singapore to foster innovation in sustainable nutrition. This milestone event took place in the presence of State Secretary, Liv Assmann, Plenipotentiary of the Free and Hanseatic City of Hamburg to the Federal Government, the European Union, and Foreign Affairs, during the Hamburg Senate’s delegation trip to Singapore, further cementing the collaboration between two cities with rich histories of maritime trade and innovative food hubs.
The cooperation between Nurasa and Food Harbour Hamburg brings together the strengths of companies from Singapore and Hamburg and underscores the importance of global partnerships in the field of food innovation. The shared vision of both partners is to develop a holistic approach to catalyse solutions for a global population that is placing increasing emphasis on mitigating climate change and its impact on the food system while promoting sustainable production methods.
The exchange of expertise, technologies, and networks will pave the way for cross-border partnerships that will benefit the regional market and the global food industry. As a major trading hub, Hamburg has become a leader in food technology, offering an ecosystem where start-ups and established companies thrive. This is supported by its infrastructure and cross-sector collaboration with research institutions, thereby fostering innovation in sustainable food production, alternative proteins, and digitalisation.
Singapore is strategically positioned as a gateway to Asia with its easy market access, thriving innovation environment, and pro-business environment. Nurasa’s mission to accelerate the commercialisation of sustainable innovation and its focus on driving collaboration and co-creation within and amongst the ecosystem is underpinned by its breadth and depth of industry expertise and networks. Nurasa’s pivotal role in driving advancements in food innovation, technology, and safety makes her the natural partner of Food Harbour Hamburg – enabling greater access to global markets.
Xiuling Guo, CEO of Nurasa, highlighted the significance of the partnership, stating, “This collaboration with Food Harbour Hamburg reflects our commitment to accelerating the commercialisation of food innovation. Purposeful partnerships like this turbocharge the ecosystem and enable companies from both the East and West to expand their market access quicker and faster. Mission-aligned partners need to act now and come together to transform our food systems. I am excited for Nurasa to build this bridge.”
State Secretary, Liv Assmann, said, “To advance innovative and sustainable nutrition, international partnerships as well as exchanges regarding different food preferences are of essential importance. I am very happy that we signed this memorandum of understanding between Singapore and the Free and Hanseatic City of Hamburg today.”
Stefanie Ostendorf, co-founder of Food Harbour Hamburg says, “The Nurasa Food Tech Innovation Centre and its programs, which are available to start-ups and established companies, is truly unique. The commercialisation of food produced by biotechnological processes is still a dream of the future for European companies due to the approval issues, but the opportunity to gain experience here in Singapore is invaluable in helping us advance our ambition.”
This partnership between Nurasa and Food Harbour Hamburg is a key move toward making a tangible impact on advancing global innovation collaboration. The strategic Asia-Europe connection is a merging of minds in the space of technological expertise, market access, and entrepreneurship. It will serve to accelerate solutions and address the growing global population’s need for holistic and sustainable nutrition, for today and beyond.
