Angel Yeast releases natural yeast protein for plant-based applications

China-based Angel Yeast has introduced a vegan, allergen-free yeast protein ingredient that complements plant-based food alternatives. The AngeoPro F80 contains double the amount of essential amino acids like lysine, isoleucine and leucine and can book sthe overall taste profile of the final food item.

Yeast protein is extracted from Saccharomyces cerevisiae by adding food-grade enzymes. This removes the non-protein parts of the ingredient, making the protein concentrate exceed 75%. Its composition of micronutrients and balanced amino acids makes it rank the same as soybean in terms of nutrition in the alternative protein segment.

“As a unique microbial protein, yeast protein can not only provide similar nutritional value to animal protein, but also address the concerns involving plant-based protein such as genetic modification and shortage of land resources. We believe yeast protein is one of the best alternative protein sources in the market now,” said Eric Ao, General Manager of Angel Yeast Europe Division.

Consuming high-quality protein is essential to maintain good health, as the nutrient supports growth and metabolism of tissues. However, there is a growing preference to plant-based sources, as low digestion rates are common across the globe. Yeast protein seeks to provide solutions for these individuals and the dietary changes in the market.

Yeast protein is processed through fermentation, an environment-friendly alternative that yields 20 times less carbon emissions than that of beef processing.

AngeoPro F80 is non-GMO and great for vegans, vegetarians and flexitarians. It can be used in protein bars, beverages and vegan meat, and can mimic the taste and flavour of chicken, beef and cheese.
