Lycored’s standardized tomato extract was found to have positive effects in fighting oxidative stress, according to a study conducted in Israel. Human dermal fibroblasts were exposed to oxidative stress by researchers, which resulted in cell death and lower pro-collagen secretion.
What they found was that those that were pre-treated with Lycomato™ had reduced growth of the MMP-1 enzyme, which is responsible for collagen damage, by 50%. The ingredient also boosted pro-collagen secretion, all in all reversing the effects of oxidative stress.
These effects were heightened even more when used in combination with rosemary extract, than utilised separately.
Lycomato™ contains carotenoids and other phytonutrients that improve skin health. The extract also reduces skin damage caused by the natural aging process, environmental pollutants and UV radiation.
Dr Karin Hermoni, Head of Science & Product at Lycored said: “We’ve long known about the many links between the components of our diet and the health of our skin. This study provides exciting new evidence that the carotenoids and other phytonutrients in Lycomato offer significant protection against the damage caused by oxidative stress. It also demonstrates that it’s a perfect partner for collagen in skin health supplements, and in anti-aging products in particular.”
